Structure of the R' Tandem Duplication in Maize1

چکیده
is the symbol used to describe an allele at the R locus that controls-together with certain complementary factors-anthocyanin pigmentation in both plant and seed. R factors that lack the capacity to elicit pigment formation either in plant or seed tissues, or in both, are designated as follows: Rg = colored seed, green plant; I ' = colorless seed, colored plant; 19 = colorless seed. green plant. STADLER (1946, 1948) characterized the mutational behavior of R' alleles of different geographic origin and carried out extensive experiments with R': Cornell, an allele that conditions strong piamentation of certain seedling tissues and of anthers in the mature plant. Evidence obtained by STADLER (1942) suggested that R' behaved as a compound allele comprising a seed-pigmenting determiner and a plant-pigmenting determiner which mutated independently of each other. The presence at the R locus of two elements that have retained synaptic homology, and are therefore capable of displaced pairing, was suggested by STADLER and NUFFER (1953) from the observation that among the offspring of R': Cornell homozygotes, loss of the seed-pigmenting determiner (I' mutation) was often associated with recombination of outside markers. The frequent association of R' mutants with a particular recombinant class in R'/Rg heterozygotes enabled STADLER and NUFFER to place the plant-pigmenting determiner (labeled P ) in the proximal member of the duplication, and the seed-pigmenting determiner (labeled S) in the distal member (see Figure 1 ). Additional data that bear on the relation of R' mutation to recombination are presented in this report. The data are used in (1) establishing the relative position of the genetic determiners ( P ) and (S) within the corresponding members of the duplication, (2) measuring the genetic length of the duplication, and ( 3 ) estimating the relative frequency of displaced pairing in duplication homozygotes.

Gene Family: Structure, Organization and Evolution
Gene families are considered as groups of homologous genes which they share very similar sequences and they may have identical functions. Members of gene families may be found in tandem repeats or interspersed through the genome. These sequences are copies of the ancestral genes which have underwent changes. The multiple copies of each gene in a family were constructed based on gene duplicati...
متن کاملPopulation Level Purifying Selection and Gene Expression Shape Subgenome Evolution in Maize.
The maize ancestor experienced a recent whole-genome duplication (WGD) followed by gene erosion which generated two subgenomes, the dominant subgenome (maize1) experiencing fewer deletions than maize2. We take advantage of available extensive polymorphism and gene expression data in maize to study purifying selection and gene expression divergence between WGD retained paralog pairs. We first re...
متن کاملSome homological properties of amalgamated duplication of a ring along an ideal
In this work, we investigate the transfer of some homological properties from a ring $R$ to its amalgamated duplication along some ideal $I$ of $R$ $Rbowtie I$, and then generate new and original families of rings with these properties.
متن کاملNotes on amalgamated duplication of a ring along an ideal
In this paper, we study some ring theoretic properties of the amalgamated duplication ring $Rbowtie I$ of a commutative Noetherian ring $R$ along an ideal $I$ of $R$ which was introduced by D'Anna and Fontana. Indeed, it is determined that when $Rbowtie I$ satisfies Serre's conditions $(R_n)$ and $(S_n)$, and when is a normal ring, a generalized Cohen-Macaulay ring and finally a filter ring.

Let be a commutative Noetherian ring and let I be a proper ideal of . D’Anna and Fontana in [6] introduced a new construction of ring, named amalgamated duplication of along I. In this paper by considering the ring homomorphism , it is shown that if , then , also it is proved that if , then there exists such that . Using this result it is shown that if is generically Cohen-Macaulay (resp. gen...
